Hot off the press

CPH Meal - Winter publication

So, just as the snows melt, here’s our first seasonal publication – Winter 2011/12. We’re really happy with how it turned out. Sine Jensen’s illustrations look exquisite on the grainy recycled paper and Simon Roche has pulled off a small triumph with the layout.

Like always with us, this project evolved over time. We were maybe initially a little ambitious with who we wanted to contribute but we adjusted our sights and gradually it took shape. Christian Puglisi’s insightful essay about Relæ’s difficult first winter was the first piece of content to arrive and that anchored the rest of the editorial process.

The wintery theme is rounded off with a delectable veal heart recipe from Noma’s Emil Glaser, a warming cocktail from Umami’s Chris Doig, and some foraging tips from chef and blogger Ragnar Eiriksson.

Stack of CPH Meal publications

While the process was malleable, the core idea of a foldable publication centred on the season and which could double as a poster, remained fixed. We’d suggest opening it up in full, laying it out over your dining table and perusing while enjoying a cup of whatever takes your fancy.

CPH Meal in print – introducing ‘Winter’

CPH Meal Winter Sample

The picture above is a sneak peek of a seasonal publication we’re launching next week. ‘Winter’ is a collaboration with Simon Roche of Smoke and Mirrors Studio (design and layout) and Sine Jensen, who provided the stunning illustrations.

This first edition features contributions from the likes of Christian Puglisi (Relæ), Emil Glaser (NOMA), and Chris Doig (Umami), and it is, to our eyes at least, a beautiful thing.
A physical publication felt like the right way for CPH Meal to expand beyond dining events. We’d never be able to keep up a regular blog but the thematic constraints provided by the seasons and the physical constraints of a printed publication kept us focused and motivated.

We’ll give details of how and where you can pick up ‘Winter’ here and on our Facebook page as soon as we’re able.
